Hibernian Football Club (/h?'b??rni?n/), commonly known as Hibs, is a professional football club based in the Leith area of Edinburgh, Scotland. The club plays in the Scottish Premiership, the top tier of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).
History
Hibernian was founded in 1875 by a group of Irish immigrants. The club's first home ground was at Easter Road, which is still the club's home today.
Hibernian won their first Scottish league championship in 1903. They have since won the league a further three times, in 1905, 1914, and 1952.
Hibernian have also won the Scottish Cup four times, in 1887, 1902, 1903, and 2016. They have also reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup twice, in 1960 and 1972.
Rivalries
Hibernian's main rivals are Hearts, who are also based in Edinburgh. The two clubs contest the Edinburgh derby, which is one of the most passionate and intense derbies in Scottish football.
Hibernian also have a rivalry with Rangers, who are based in Glasgow. The two clubs have met in some of the most famous matches in Scottish football history, including the 1972 Scottish Cup Final, which Hibernian won 3-2.
