Glentoran Football Club is a professional football club based in East Belfast, Northern Ireland. The club was founded in 1882 and currently plays in the NIFL Premiership, the top tier of Northern Irish football.
Glentoran are one of the most successful clubs in Northern Irish football, having won the league title 23 times, the Irish Cup 27 times, and the League Cup 10 times. They have also competed in European competition on numerous occasions.
History
Glentoran was founded in 1882 by a group of men who met at the Glentoran Hotel in East Belfast. The club's first home ground was at the Oval, which is still their home today.
Glentoran won their first league title in 1894 and their first Irish Cup in 1897. They have gone on to win the league title 23 times, the Irish Cup 27 times, and the League Cup 10 times.
Glentoran have also competed in European competition on numerous occasions. They have reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1967 and the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1984.
