Ferndale FC was founded in 1902 by a group of local workers. The team initially competed in local amateur leagues before joining the Isthmian League in 1921. Ferndale FC has spent the majority of its history in the Isthmian League, with its highest finish being third in Division One in 1978-79.
In recent years, Ferndale FC has enjoyed a period of success. The team won the Isthmian League Division One South in 2016-17, earning promotion to the Premier Division. Ferndale FC also reached the FA Cup first round in 2017-18, where they lost to League Two side Stevenage.
