Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC), commonly known as Ferencváros (Hungarian: ['f?r?nt?sva?ro?]), Fradi, FTC or Kinizsi, is a professional football club based in Ferencváros, Budapest, Hungary, that competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, the top flight of Hungarian football.
History
Ferencváros was founded in 1899 by Ferenc Springer and a group of local residents of Budapest's ninth district, Ferencváros. The club's first home ground was the Ülloi Field, which they shared with Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre (MTK). In 1911, Ferencváros moved to their current home ground, the Groupama Arena.
Ferencváros is the most successful Hungarian team both domestically and internationally. They have won the Nemzeti Bajnokság I 33 times, the Magyar Kupa 24 times, the Mitropa Cup twice, and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup once. They were the first Hungarian club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, in the 1995-96 season.
Recent seasons
Ferencváros has been one of the most successful Hungarian clubs in recent years. They have won the Nemzeti Bajnokság I four times in the last five seasons, and they have also reached the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
In the 2022-23 season, Ferencváros finished first in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I with 79 points, 19 points ahead of second-placed Újpest. They also reached the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, where they were drawn in a group with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Benfica. Ferencváros finished last in their group, but they did manage to beat Barcelona 2-1 at home.
