Darlington 1883 Football Club is an English association football club based in Darlington, County Durham. The club was founded in 1883 and currently competes in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football.
History
Darlington 1883 was founded in July 1883 when a number of representatives from several teams in the town met in a local grammar school and decided to form one club. The club's first home ground was Feethams, which they shared with Darlington Cricket Club.
Darlington 1883 joined the Northern League in 1889 and won the title in 1925. The club was elected to the Football League Third Division North in 1921 and remained there until 1974, when they were relegated to the Fourth Division.
Darlington 1883 reached the FA Cup third round in 1973 and 1977. The club also won the Third Division North Cup in 1934 and the Northern League Cup in 1982.
Darlington 1883 were relegated to the Conference National in 2007. The club went into administration in 2012 and was expelled from the Football Association. A new club, Darlington 1883, was formed and started playing in the Northern League Division One.
Darlington 1883 won promotion to the Northern Premier League Division One in 2013 and to the National League North in 2017. The club currently plays its home games at Blackwell Meadows.
