Cubs Athletic Football Club is a football club based in Pune City, India. The club was founded in 1920 and is one of the oldest football clubs in the country. Cubs Athletic FC has won the Pune District Football League a record 22 times. The club has also competed in the I-League, the top tier of Indian football, on two occasions.

History

Cubs Athletic FC was founded in 1920 by a group of British expatriates living in Pune. The club's first home ground was at the Deccan Gymkhana. In the early years, Cubs Athletic FC played against other British clubs in Pune. The club also played against some of the top Indian clubs, such as Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

In the 1950s, Cubs Athletic FC began to compete in the Pune District Football League. The club won its first league title in 1953. Cubs Athletic FC went on to win the league a further 21 times.

In 1996, Cubs Athletic FC qualified for the I-League, the top tier of Indian football. The club finished bottom of the league in its first season, but it returned to the I-League in 2000. Cubs Athletic FC finished bottom of the league again in 2001 and was relegated.

Recent seasons

Cubs Athletic FC has competed in the I-League Second Division since 2001. The club has finished in the top four of the league on several occasions, but it has not been promoted to the I-League since 2001.

In recent years, Cubs Athletic FC has focused on developing young players. The club has a strong youth academy and it has produced several players who have gone on to play for the Indian national team.
