History
The Connecticut Sun were founded in 2009 by Mark Cuban and Bruce Coppel. The team's name was chosen in a fan vote. The Sun played their first season in 2010, finishing with a record of 5-11-4. They missed the playoffs in their inaugural season.
The Sun made the playoffs in their second season, 2011. They lost to the Philadelphia Independence in the semifinals. The Sun made the playoffs again in 2012, but they lost to the Western New York Flash in the quarterfinals.
The Sun's breakthrough season came in 2017. They won the NWSL Championship, defeating the Chicago Red Stars in the final. The Sun's star player, Carli Lloyd, was named the NWSL MVP and the NWSL Championship MVP.
