Charlie FC is an American professional men's soccer club based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference.
The team was founded in 2019 and began play in the 2022 MLS season. They are owned by David Tepper, a billionaire hedge fund manager and businessman who also owns the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League.
The team plays its home games at Bank of America Stadium, which they share with the Panthers. The stadium capacity is reduced to 38,000 for most matches.
History
Charlie FC was awarded an expansion franchise by MLS in December 2019. The team's name and colors were announced in January 2020.
The team's first head coach was Miguel Ángel Ramírez, who was hired in July 2021. Ramírez was fired in May 2022 and replaced by Christian Lattanzio.
Charlie FC played their first MLS match on February 26, 2022, against D.C. United. They lost the match 3-0.
The team finished their inaugural season with a record of 7-17-8. They missed the playoffs.
