Chagos Football Association Sunday League Team
The Chagos Football Association is a Sunday League football team made up of Chagossians who were displaced from the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean by the British government in the 1960s. The team is based in Crawley, England, and plays in the Crawley and District Sunday League.
The team was founded in 2005 by Mariesabrina Jean, whose father was a Chagossian. The team's first match was against the Raetia national football team, a team representing a province of the Roman Empire in central Europe. The Chagos Football Association has also played against the Sealand national football team, an unrecognised micronation that claims an offshore platform off the coast of Suffolk.
The team's goal is to raise awareness of the Chagossians' plight and to promote the Chagossian culture. The team has also been involved in a number of charitable initiatives, such as raising money for the Chagos Survivors Association.
