Capel Football Club was founded in 1920 and played in local amateur leagues until the 1970s. In 1977, the club joined the West Sussex Football League and has been playing in the league ever since.
The club has won the West Sussex Football League Division 2 on three occasions, in 1984-85, 1995-96, and 2002-03. The club has also reached the final of the West Sussex Senior Cup on three occasions, in 1989-90, 2000-01, and 2002-03.
