Blackpool was founded in 1878 as Stanley Swifts. The club changed its name to Blackpool Football Club in 1887.
Blackpool joined the Football League in 1896. The club won the FA Cup in 1953, defeating Bolton Wanderers 4-3 in the final.
Blackpool won the Football League Championship in 2010, earning promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 48 years. The club was relegated back to the Championship in 2011.
