History
Ashington Cougars FC was founded in 1982 by a group of women who wanted to play football. The team initially competed in local leagues, but they quickly rose through the ranks and eventually reached the Scottish Women's Premier League in 2002.
The Cougars have been a regular fixture in the SWPL ever since, and they have even won the league title on two occasions (2007 and 2010). The team has also reached the Scottish Cup final on three occasions, but they have yet to lift the trophy.
