UEA were back in league action this weekend, following a terrific win in the junior cup the previous weekend. Acle United reserves were the visitors to a wet and windy Colney lane, who at the start of the day sat just above UEA in the league standings. However with confidence running high in the UEA camp following a very impressive performance the previous weekend versus North Elmham, UEA finished the day above Acle in the league after a well-deserved 5-0 win.
UEA started the game with great intent and purpose by passing the ball around and totally controlling the game, and it was not long before they took the lead. Within the first ten minutes of the game Chapman picked out Martey who was left unmarked at the back post, and he duly finished to give UEA the best possible start and a 1-0 lead. This was followed up mid-way through the first half with a well taken goal by the very impressive Fletcher, which left UEA now in a very commanding position as half time approached.
The start of the second half was a much slower affair as it seemed that Acle were perhaps thinking about damage limitation which also coupled with the fact that UEA started putting the foot off the pedal slightly. However UEA still had total control of the game as Acle barely got into UEAs half of the pitch all game.
Although the game had slightly died with both teams content with the result, it did produce a moment of magic. Ap Dafydd picked the ball up on half way and drove at the Acle defence, and with around 25 yards to goal struck a delightful shot which powered into the goal as the goalie was helpless to do anything. Finally after 20 minutes of the second half the game got some of its tempo back.
Buoyed by the goal and with the addition of some fresh legs UEA started to pile on the pressure again. Playing the ball about with the same conviction as they had in the first half UEA found themselves 4-0 up soon enough. A well taken corner from Doddman found Bacon who tapped in for his first goal of the season. The last goal came from a penalty that was scored by newcomer Jackson, and left Acle with 10 men for the last few minutes.
This was a good 3 points for UEA who seem to have somewhat found a bit of form as they now travel to Loughborough on Wednesday, which will be their first bucs game of the season.
