As we approached the midway of the season (well in theory), the Porto band wagon rolled down the I40 to the wonderful land known as Burlington..
First up against the Porto boys was CASL AC Milan
The game started with a good pace as the Porto boys were awake and ready for the task. Some good opening passing play from the back line to midfield allowed the wingers to stretch their legs down the wings and produce several dangerous crosses that just eluded the Porto frontline. It was Porto that opened the scoring as the ever impressive David notched a well earned goal into the left hand corner of the net after a nice break from Remi down the wing.
One became two not long after as Andy notched a goal that he so rightly deserved for terrorising the CASL left wing for the majority of the first half.
Just before the break, Porto notched a 3rd goal with a nice move from Remi that sent Kevin free to score his 1st official goal of the season. With that weight of Kevin's slender shoulders, he looked like a new man and one possessed as he hunted the ball down and chased every loose hungry for more, only to be halted by the half time whistle.
As the boys came in for half time, Coach was quick to point out that they had been here before and not to take the lead for granted. Calling for more hustle, more focus and to not let CASL in the game, the Porto boys were ready ad wanting more.
The second half only produced one goal for the Porto side, but it wasn't for the want of trying as cross after cross, shot after shot went in on the CASL goal to find a keeper in a bit more resilient form than the first half. A fourth did come in the shape of a well worked solo goal from Kevin. With changes being made and coach playing players out of position, CASL did get a dubious conciliation goal as with the game nearly done and into injury time, a soft penalty was given for a accidental clipping of the back heel of the CASL team, who then stepped up and scored.
FT 4-1
Coach's Corner
Very pleased for the boys to get their first win of the season and a well earned one at that. The boys continue to play their soccer in good spirit and are showing more signs of improving as a team and making steps forward. With the way we are playing and the understanding we are gaining, our rewards will be not long in arriving!
Well Done
