After completely dominating the 1st 45 mins with some great defencive and attacking play Barnets Utd yet again were unlucky not to have been 4 or 5 goals upto going into the 2nd half and again chances were not taken which also included another missed penalty!! Do we need a new striker??
Going into the 2nd half we should have been confident as we were the better side and continued where we left off but that wasnt to be the case. For some reason we sat back and let them play there game we were playing as if we had already won the game, giving them way to much time across the park. Before long there chance came from a set piece giving them the 1-0 lead but in true Barnets style we wern't having that!! 5 minutes after they goal Broomie sends a long ball down the middle of the pitch spliting the defence with Matty pouncing and slotting the ball home nicely. 1-1. For the rest of the 2nd half chances were had at both ends but did not materialse into that winning goals which was needed, 90 mins up were now into extra time.
At the start of the 1st half of Extra time we looked like we wanted it a little more and with another end to end performance from both sides and just 5mins of the 1st half Jordan finds himself in ample space on the left wing. Make his run cuts back inside and bends in a Screamer top right hand corner giving that 2-1 lead we were looking for and in my opinion deserved.
20mins to play Codsall thru everything at us in the final minutes with some clear cut chances missed, some graat saves from Martin and defence clearances from all we thought we may hold in there but in the dying seconds (last 30 sec to be precise) and another goal mouth scramble they get that equaliser making it 2-2 taking it to Penalties.
Codsall were up 1st hitting the post gicing us that small advantage which with penatly shoot outs can change at any point and unfortuanlty for us it did. After Downesy, Kempy nicely slotting home then Jordan unfortunatley stepped up and placed it a little to close to the keeper bring it back level. The penatlies continued and 7-7 Matty steps up and goes to place his shot in the top right hand corner but watches it just skim the over the bar. Codsall then step up to slot home the winning penalty. A horrible way to lose but all in all a great game from both sides a great game to watch and more importantly for Barnets some great football was played! Heads Up!
