Our back four made an impact on todays game Jordan, Brandon & Joel all got on the score sheet & Matthew assisted in two of the goals.
First game of the season and we were of to Belfast to play shorts on their senior pitch at 10am with a heavy rainfall throughout the night we though the match would be off but thankfully when we arrived there the pitch was in good order and the match was on.
The boys started well and were on the front foot right from the start and it was only a matter of time before we would score as we lay siege on the Shorts goal. The first goal came in the 14th minute when Stuart Hannah found Noah Crenshaw and Noah put the ball in to the net 1: Ards, the second goal came four minutes later when Matthew Guest sent over a corner and Joel Hill met it with a header straight in to the net, 2:0 Ards. Two minutes later it was number three, Jordan Mulholland latched on to a through ball from Matthew Guest out on the left powered forward and from 20 yards out fire the ball in to the net, 3:0 Ards. Number four came two minutes later when a bad clearance from the goalkeeper fell to Brandon McFerran 25 yards out he sent a powerful shot in to the back of the net, 4:0 Ards. Then a minute later it was five, Stuart Hannah threaded the ball on to the very nippy Jack Patterson who danced his way past the Shorts defence and slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 5:0 Ards. This was a strong period of play where we scored five goals in 9 minutes. So with the game won it was time to introduce some of the subs to get them involved in the match.

We started the second half with all four subs now on the field and the boys continued to create chances but the shooting boots seemed to have left them, we did manage to hit the wood work several times and Shorts goalkeeper pull of some great saves to deny us more goals. Then with four minutes remaining Shorts pulled a goal back all be it from an own goal scored by Jordan Mulholland when Shorts played a high ball forward Jordan headed the ball up in the air but the flight of the ball deceive Jai and now it was 5:1 Ards. Shorts pulled another one back right on the stroke of regular time and there was a slight hint of offside but goal stood 5.2 Ards. Ards would have the final say three minutes in to time added on when Jack Patterson found Caleb Surgenor who used his strength to plough through the Shorts defence and stab the ball in to the net, 6:2 Ards.
