Introduction
The Zaterdag is an amateur football league in the Netherlands. It is the second-tier league in the Dutch football pyramid, below the Eerste Divisie and above the Topklasse. The league was founded in 1956 and currently consists of 18 teams.
History
The Zaterdag was founded in 1956 as a replacement for the Tweede Divisie, which was disbanded due to financial problems. The league was originally called the Tweede Klasse, but was renamed to the Zaterdag in 1965.
The Zaterdag has been won by a total of 24 different clubs. The most successful club is FC Volendam, which has won the league 10 times. Other successful clubs include FC Eindhoven, Helmond Sport, and De Graafschap.
Current season
The current season of the Zaterdag is the 2022-2023 season. The season started on August 20, 2022 and is scheduled to end on May 28, 2023. The defending champions are FC Volendam.
The current season is being played in a double round-robin format, with each team playing each other team twice, once at home and once away. The top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted to the Eerste Divisie. The bottom two teams will be relegated to the Topklasse.
