Introduction
West Riding Fives is an amateur football league based in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1921 and currently has over 300 teams competing in a variety of divisions.
The league is affiliated to the West Riding Football Association (WRFA) and follows the Laws of Small Sided Football (SSF) as set out by The Football Association (FA).
The season runs from September to May and teams play each other home and away. The top teams in each division are promoted and the bottom teams are relegated.
The league also has a number of cup competitions, including the Challenge Cup, the League Cup and the Veterans Cup.
History
West Riding Fives was founded in 1921 by a group of football enthusiasts in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The first season saw just six teams compete, but the league has grown steadily over the years and now has over 300 teams.
The league has been affiliated to the WRFA since its inception and follows the Laws of SSF as set out by The FA.
The league has produced a number of talented players over the years, including former England internationals Peter Beardsley and Paul Gascoigne.
Current season
The current season of West Riding Fives is underway and is scheduled to run from September 2022 to May 2023. The league has 300 teams competing in a variety of divisions, including the Premier Division, Division One, Division Two and Division Three.
The top teams in each division are promoted and the bottom teams are relegated. The league also has a number of cup competitions, including the Challenge Cup, the League Cup and the Veterans Cup.
