Wearside Football League
The Wearside Football League is a non-league football competition based in northern England. It consists of three divisions which sits at steps 7 to 9 of the National League System and is a feeder to the Northern League Division Two.
History
The Wearside League was founded in 1892 and is one of the oldest football leagues in England. The inaugural season featured 10 teams, all from the Wearside area of Tyne and Wear. The league has expanded and contracted over the years, and as of the 2022-23 season, it consists of 32 teams.
The Wearside League has produced a number of professional footballers, including former England internationals Peter Beardsley and Paul Gascoigne.
Current Season
The 2022-23 Wearside League season is currently underway. The Premier Division is being led by Gateshead Leam Rangers, while the First Division is being led by Darlington Town.
