Watford Friendly League

The Watford Friendly League (WFL) is an amateur football league based in the Watford area of Hertfordshire, England. It was founded in 1969 and currently has over 100 teams competing in a variety of age groups, from U7 to U18.

History

The WFL was founded in 1969 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league initially had just 10 teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams. The WFL is affiliated to the Football Association and its teams compete in the FA Vase and FA Trophy competitions.

Divisions

Watford Friendly League action

The WFL is divided into a number of divisions, based on the age of the players. The divisions are:

  • U7
  • U8
  • U9
  • U10
  • U11
  • U12
  • U13
  • U14
  • U15
  • U16
  • U17
  • U18

The teams in each division play each other once, home and away. The top teams in each division are promoted to the next division, while the bottom teams are relegated to the previous division.

Format

Watford Friendly League match

The WFL matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays. The matches are 25 minutes each way for U9-U10 teams, 30 minutes each way for U11-U12 teams, and 45 minutes each way for U13-U18 teams.

The WFL also has a cup competition, the WFL Cup. The WFL Cup is open to all teams in the league and is played in a knockout format.
