Warrington District Football League
The Warrington District Football League is an amateur football league in Cheshire and Merseyside, England. It was founded in 1882 and is one of the oldest football leagues in the country. The league is affiliated to the Liverpool County Football Association and currently has 46 teams participating in four divisions: Premier Division, Division One, Division Two, and Division Three.
The league's headquarters are located in Warrington town centre. The current champions are Woolston Rovers, who won the Premier Division title in the 2022-23 season.
History
The Warrington District Football League was originally founded in 1882. The league was reformed in 1919 after being suspended during World War I. The league has been affiliated to the Liverpool County Football Association since 1921.
The league has a long and distinguished history. Some of the clubs that have played in the league over the years include Warrington Town, who currently compete in the National League North, and Runcorn Town, who currently compete in the Northern Premier League.
Current Structure
The Warrington District Football League currently has four divisions: Premier Division, Division One, Division Two, and Division Three. The Premier Division is the top division in the league and is followed by Division One, Division Two, and Division Three.
The Premier Division consists of 14 teams, while Division One, Division Two, and Division Three each consist of 12 teams. The teams in each division play each other twice, once home and once away. The top teams in each division are promoted to the next division, while the bottom teams are relegated to the next division.
