Introduction
The University of Birmingham Amateur Football League is a Saturday league for men's football teams affiliated to the University of Birmingham. It is currently in its 98th season, and is one of the oldest amateur football leagues in the country.The league is divided into two divisions, with each division having 12 teams. The top two teams from each division are promoted at the end of the season, while the bottom two teams are relegated.
The league also has a cup competition, the University of Birmingham Amateur Football League Cup. The cup is open to all teams in the league, and is played in a knockout format.
History
The league was founded in 1925, and was originally called the Birmingham University Athletic Union Football League. The league was renamed to the University of Birmingham Amateur Football League in 1970.The league has been won by a number of different teams over the years, including Aston Villa, Birmingham City, and Coventry City. The current champions are Sutton United.
Current Season
The current season is the 98th season of the league. The top two teams in the league are Sutton United and Wake Green Amateur 'A'. The bottom two teams are Sportsco and Cresconians.The cup competition is currently being played, and the final is scheduled to be held on 24th September 2023.
