Umaglesi Liga
The Umaglesi Liga (also known as the Erovnuli Liga) is the top professional football league in Georgia. It was founded in 1990 and is currently contested by 10 teams. The season runs from August to May, with each team playing each other twice, once at home and once away.
The current champions are Dinamo Tbilisi, who have won the title a record 17 times. Other successful teams include Saburtalo Tbilisi, Torpedo Kutaisi, and Dinamo Batumi.
History
The Umaglesi Liga was founded in 1990, following the independence of Georgia from the Soviet Union. The inaugural season was won by Iberia Tbilisi.
The league has been dominated by Dinamo Tbilisi, who have won the title a record 17 times. Other successful teams include Saburtalo Tbilisi, Torpedo Kutaisi, and Dinamo Batumi.
Current season
The 2023 Umaglesi Liga season is currently underway. The top four teams at the end of the season will qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
