The Southampton Cup
The Southampton Cup is an amateur football league in the city of Southampton, England. It was founded in 1906 and is currently administered by the Wessex League. The cup is open to all amateur teams in Southampton, and is played on a knockout basis.
History
The Southampton Cup was founded in 1906 by the Southampton & District Football Association. The first winners were St. Mary's, who defeated Freemantle 2-1 in the final. The cup has been won by a variety of teams over the years, including Southampton FC, Portsmouth FC, and AFC Bournemouth.
Format
The Southampton Cup is played on a knockout basis. There are no replays, so ties are decided on the day. The cup is currently divided into three divisions: Premier, Division One, and Division Two. The top two teams in each division at the end of the season qualify for the following season's cup.
