South Manchester Girls League
The South Manchester Girls League (SMGL) is an amateur football league for girls in the south Manchester area. It was founded in 1999 and currently has over 100 teams competing in various age groups.
Divisions
The SMGL currently has divisions for the following age groups:
- Under-7s
- Under-8s
- Under-9s
- Under-10s
- Under-11s
- Under-12s
- Under-13s
- Under-14s
- Under-15s
- Under-16s
The teams in each division play each other home and away, with the top teams at the end of the season being promoted to the next division.
Season
The SMGL season runs from September to May. The season is divided into two halves, with the teams playing each other once in each half. The top teams at the end of each half go into a play-off to determine the league champions.
Cup competitions
The SMGL also organizes a number of cup competitions, including the following:
- The SMGL Cup
- The SMGL Challenge Cup
- The SMGL Plate
- The SMGL Trophy
The cup competitions are open to all teams in the SMGL. The winners of each competition qualify for the next season's competition.
