Smarter Than Smoking Junior Football League
The Smarter Than Smoking Junior Football League is an amateur football league for under-13 to under-18 players in Western Australia. It is run by Football West, the governing body for football in Western Australia.
The league was founded in 2004 as part of a statewide initiative to reduce smoking rates among young people. The name of the league is a play on words, as it encourages young people to be "smarter than smoking" by choosing to play football instead.
How it works
The Smarter Than Smoking Junior Football League is divided into a number of divisions, based on age and skill level. Each division has a regular season, followed by a finals series. The top teams in each division qualify for the finals series, which culminates in a grand final.
The league also runs a number of cup competitions, including the Smarter Than Smoking Junior Cup and the Smarter Than Smoking Junior State Cup. The cup competitions are open to all teams in the league, regardless of division.
