Introduction
The South Australian Community Football League (SACFL) is an Australian local football club that operates with authority from the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) granted by license to provide help and finance for associated clubs and leagues to ensure that the sport is played with every rule being followed.
The SACFL was formed in 1997 by the amalgamation of the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) and the South Australian Country Football League (SACFL).
The SACFL currently has 67 member clubs playing over 100 matches per week.
The league provides competition across eight Senior divisions with Reserves grades, accompanied by a separate C grade competition, all from Divisions 1 to 7.
The SACFL also has a Women's Football League and six Junior Football Leagues comprising of boys and girls.
History
The South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) was founded in 1887.
The SAAFL was the first Australian rules football league in South Australia.
The SAAFL initially had only four clubs, but it grew to over 100 clubs by the 1960s.
The South Australian Country Football League (SACFL) was founded in 1923.
The SACFL was formed by clubs from rural areas of South Australia.
The SACFL had over 60 clubs at its peak in the 1970s.
The SACFL and the SAAFL merged in 1997 to form the South Australian Community Football League (SACFL).
Current Structure
The SACFL currently has 67 member clubs.
The clubs are divided into eight Senior divisions, with each division having a Reserves grade.
There is also a separate C grade competition, which is open to all clubs.
The SACFL also has a Women's Football League and six Junior Football Leagues comprising of boys and girls.
