The Ryedale Amateur Football League was founded in 1922 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The inaugural season saw 10 teams compete in a single division. The league has since expanded to its current size of 30 teams competing in three divisions.
The league has been won by a number of different teams over the years. The most successful team is Ryedale United, who have won the league title 12 times. Other notable winners include Kirkbymoorside Town, Helmsley Town, and Pickering Town.
