The Rochdale & District Sunday League was founded in 1920 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league initially had just two divisions, but it has since expanded to five divisions.
The league has been home to some notable players over the years, including former England internationals Peter Reid and David Platt.

The current season of the Rochdale & District Sunday League is the 2022-23 season. The league is sponsored by Woolworths Sports & Social Club.
The current champions are Game Cock, who won the Division One title in 2022.
