Introduction
Portela is an amateur football league based in Lisbon, Portugal. It was founded in 1972 and currently has over 100 teams competing in various divisions.
The league is divided into two main divisions, the Primeira Divisão and the Segunda Divisão. The Primeira Divisão is the top division and is contested by the best teams in the league. The Segunda Divisão is the second division and is contested by the teams that did not qualify for the Primeira Divisão.
In addition to the two main divisions, Portela also has a number of cup competitions, including the Taça Portela and the Supertaça Portela. The Taça Portela is a knockout competition contested by all the teams in the league, while the Supertaça Portela is a one-off match between the winners of the Primeira Divisão and the Segunda Divisão.
History
Portela was founded in 1972 by a group of friends who wanted to create a football league for amateur players. The league started with just a few teams, but it quickly grew in popularity and now has over 100 teams competing.
Portela has produced a number of talented players over the years, including some who have gone on to play professional football. One of the most famous players to come out of Portela is Nani, who played for Portugal at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.
