Pitching In Northern Premier League
The Pitching In Northern Premier League is an English football league for semi-professional and amateur clubs in the north of England. It is the ninth tier of the English football league system.
The league was founded in 1968 as the Northern Premier League, and has been sponsored by a number of companies over the years, including BetVictor and Pitching In.
Structure
The league is divided into three divisions: Premier Division, East Division, and West Division. The Premier Division is the top division, and the East and West Divisions are the second and third divisions respectively.
Each division consists of 22 teams, and the teams play each other twice, once home and once away. The top two teams in each division are promoted to the next higher division, and the bottom four teams in each division are relegated to the next lower division.
Promotion and relegation
The top two teams in the Premier Division are promoted to the National League North, and the bottom four teams in the Premier Division are relegated to the Northern Premier League East Division or Northern Premier League West Division.
The top two teams in the East Division are promoted to the Northern Premier League Premier Division, and the bottom four teams in the East Division are relegated to the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
The top two teams in the West Division are promoted to the Northern Premier League Premier Division, and the bottom four teams in the West Division are relegated to the Northern League Premier Division.
