North East Regional Women's Football League
The North East Regional Women's Football League (NERWFL) is an amateur football league for women in the North East of England. It is at the fifth and sixth levels of the English women's football pyramids.
History
The NERWFL was founded in 2007. The inaugural season consisted of 12 teams, divided into two divisions. The league has since expanded to 29 teams, divided into three divisions: the Premier Division, Division One North, and Division One South.
Structure
The NERWFL season runs from September to May. Each team plays each other team in their division twice, once at home and once away. The top two teams in the Premier Division are promoted to the Northern Section of the Northern Premier League Women's Football League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division One North. The top two teams in Division One North are promoted to the Premier Division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division One South. The top two teams in Division One South are promoted to Division One North, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Teesside Women's Football League.
Current season
The current season, the 2023-2024 season, began on September 3, 2023. The Premier Division is currently led by Sheffield United Community, followed by Hull City and Barnsley. Division One North is currently led by Birtley Phoenix, followed by California and Norton & Stockton Ancients. Division One South is currently led by Redcar Athletic, followed by Tynedale and Durham City.
