Newport & District Football League
The Newport & District Football League is an amateur football league covering the city of Newport and surrounding areas in South Wales. It is currently sponsored by The Monmouthshire Building Society.
History
The league was founded in 1901 and is the oldest and largest district football league in Gwent. It currently has four divisions plus a Sunday division. The top-level consists of a premier division split into "Premier X" and "Premier Y", and two feeder divisions numbered 1 and 2.
The league has produced a number of professional footballers, including Chris Gunter, who played for Wales at the 2016 European Championship, and Joe Day, who is currently the goalkeeper for Cardiff City.
Current Season
The 2023-2024 season is currently underway. The top two teams in the Premier X division will be promoted to the Welsh Football League Division Two, while the bottom two teams will be relegated to the Premier Y division.
The current leaders of the Premier X division are AFC Pontymister, who have won all of their games so far. The current leaders of the Premier Y division are Pill United.
