About NB II
NB II is the second tier of professional football in Hungary. It is also known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons. The league was founded in 1905 and has been played continuously since then.
The league consists of 20 teams, which play each other twice in a home and away format. The top two teams at the end of the season are promoted to the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Nemzeti Bajnokság III.
The current champions of NB II are MTK Budapest, who won the title in the 2022-23 season. The most successful team in NB II history is Ferencvárosi TC, who have won the title 18 times.
