Introduction
The Metro Midget Football League (MMYL) is an amateur football league for players aged 11-14 in the Greater Toronto Area. The league was founded in 1969 and currently has over 1,000 players.
The MMYL is a non-profit organization that is committed to providing a safe and fun environment for its players. The league offers a variety of divisions, including competitive, recreational, and flag football.
The MMYL season runs from September to November. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays.
History
The MMYL was founded in 1969 by a group of parents who wanted to provide a football league for their children. The league started with just a few teams, but it has grown steadily over the years.
In 1989, the MMYL became a member of the Canadian Amateur Football Association (CAFA). This gave the league access to national tournaments and other opportunities.
The MMYL has produced many talented players over the years. Some of the league's alumni have gone on to play professional football, including Damon Allen, Mike Vanderjagt, and Adam Bighill.
Rules and Regulations
The MMYL plays by the rules of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The league also has its own set of rules and regulations that are designed to ensure the safety of its players.
Some of the key rules of the MMYL include:
- The game is played with 12 players per team.
- The field is 100 yards long and 50 yards wide.
- The game is played in four quarters of 12 minutes each.
- There is a running clock in the second half of the game.
- Contact is allowed, but there are rules in place to protect the players.
