The Lincoln Sunday League is an amateur football league in Lincoln, England. It was founded in 1920 and currently has over 100 teams competing in four divisions.
History
The Lincoln Sunday League was founded in 1920 by a group of local footballers who wanted to play competitive football on Sundays. The league started with just four teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams competing in four divisions.
The league has been sponsored by a number of local businesses over the years, including Sills & Betteridge, who are the current sponsors.
Divisions
The Lincoln Sunday League currently has four divisions: Premier Division, Division One, Division Two, and Division Three. The Premier Division is the top division, and the Division Three is the bottom division.
The teams in each division are ranked according to their results, and the top teams at the end of the season are promoted to the next division, while the bottom teams are relegated to the lower division.
Cup competitions
In addition to the league competition, the Lincoln Sunday League also runs a number of cup competitions, including the Jock Mitchell Memorial Trophy, the Kelly Read Cup, and the Ron Eaglen Challenge Cup.
The Jock Mitchell Memorial Trophy is the most prestigious cup competition in the league, and is named after Jock Mitchell, a former chairman of the league. The Kelly Read Cup is named after Kelly Read, a former player in the league. The Ron Eaglen Challenge Cup is named after Ron Eaglen, a former referee in the league.
