Liga a IV-a
Liga a IV-a is the fourth level of the Romanian football league system and is run in all 41 counties and in the Municipality of Bucharest.
It was known as the Regional Championship, County Championship, Divizia C – County Phase and Divizia D. Its name was changed into Liga IV before the start of the 2006–07 season.
History
The Liga a IV-a was created in 1968 as the fourth level of the Romanian football league system. It was originally known as the Regional Championship and was run in all 41 counties of Romania.
In 1990, the Liga a IV-a was renamed the County Championship. The following season, the league was divided into two phases: a regional phase and a county phase. The top teams from the regional phase would qualify for the county phase, where they would compete for promotion to Liga III.
In 2006, the Liga a IV-a was renamed again, this time to Divizia C – County Phase. The following season, the league was further divided into three groups: North, South and West. The top teams from each group would qualify for the promotion play-offs, where they would compete for two spots in Liga III.
In 2016, the Liga a IV-a was renamed for the third time, this time to Liga IV. The league structure remained the same, with the top teams from each group qualifying for the promotion play-offs.
Current season
The current season of Liga a IV-a began on 18 September 2022 and is scheduled to end on 11 June 2023. The winners of each group will qualify for the promotion play-offs, where they will compete for two spots in Liga III.
