Leicestershire Youth League
The Leicestershire Youth League (LYL) is an amateur football league for young players in Leicestershire, England. It was founded in 1920 and currently has over 400 teams competing in its various divisions.
The LYL is affiliated to the Leicestershire County FA and is divided into three age groups: Under-16s, Under-17s, and Under-18s. Each age group has a number of divisions, with the top division being the Premier Division.
History
The LYL was founded in 1920 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The first season saw 12 teams compete in a single division. The league has grown steadily over the years and now has over 400 teams competing in its various divisions.
The LYL has produced a number of talented players over the years, including former England internationals Gary Lineker and David Beckham.
Structure
The LYL is divided into three age groups: Under-16s, Under-17s, and Under-18s. Each age group has a number of divisions, with the top division being the Premier Division.
The teams in each division play each other home and away, with the top teams at the end of the season being promoted to the next division and the bottom teams being relegated to the lower division.
Cup competitions
The LYL also organizes a number of cup competitions, including the Luke Samples Under-16 League Cup, the Presidents Trophy Under-17/18, and the Under-16 Chairmans Trophy.
The cup competitions are open to all teams in the LYL and provide an opportunity for teams to win silverware and earn promotion.
