Leicestershire Womens and Girls Football League

The Leicestershire Womens and Girls Football League (LWFGL) is a football league for women and girls in Leicestershire, England. It was founded in 1972 and is affiliated to the Leicestershire County Football Association.

The LWFGL currently has 10 divisions, ranging from the top-flight Premier Division to the bottom-level Division 10. The league also has a number of cup competitions, including the LWFGL Cup, the LWFGL Challenge Cup, and the LWFGL Plate.

History

Leicestershire Womens and Girls Football League action

The LWFGL was founded in 1972 by a group of women who wanted to play football in Leicestershire. The league started with just four teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams.

The LWFGL has been a successful league, with many of its teams winning national competitions. In 2007, the LWFGL team Loughborough Foxes won the FA Women's Cup, the most prestigious cup competition in English women's football.

Current season

The current season of the LWFGL is the 2022-23 season. The Premier Division is currently being led by Leicester City Women, who are unbeaten in their first 10 games.

The other divisions of the LWFGL are also being hotly contested, with several teams vying for promotion. The LWFGL Cup is also currently being played, with the final scheduled to be held in May 2023.
