Introduction
League 1 is the third tier of the English football league system. It is also known as the EFL League One or simply League One.
The league was founded in 1992, following the formation of the Premier League. It currently consists of 24 teams, each of which plays 46 matches during the season.
The top two teams in League One are automatically promoted to the Championship, while the third-placed team goes into a playoff with the winners of the League Two playoffs. The bottom four teams in League One are relegated to League Two.
History
League One was founded in 1992, following the formation of the Premier League. It was originally called the Second Division, but was renamed League One in 2004.
The first season of League One was won by Swindon Town, who finished the season 10 points clear of second-placed Port Vale.
The most successful team in League One history is Charlton Athletic, who have won the league on four occasions.

The current season of League One is the 2023-2024 season. The season began on August 6, 2023 and is scheduled to end on May 6, 2024.
