Lancashire Sunday Football League
The Lancashire Sunday Football League is an amateur football league in Lancashire, England. It is affiliated to the Lancashire County Football Association and is one of the largest Sunday leagues in the country, with over 300 clubs.
The league was founded in 1923 and currently has 12 divisions, ranging from the Premier Division to Division 12. The top two teams in each division are promoted at the end of the season, while the bottom two teams are relegated.
The league also has a number of cup competitions, including the Lancashire Sunday Trophy, the Lancashire Sunday Challenge Cup and the Lancashire Sunday Youth Cup.
History
The Lancashire Sunday Football League was founded in 1923 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The first season consisted of just 10 clubs, but the league has grown steadily over the years and now has over 300 clubs.
The league has been home to some of the best amateur footballers in the country, including former England internationals Peter Beardsley and David Platt.
Current Season
The 2023-2024 season is currently underway. The Premier Division is being led by Acregate Lane Labour Club, while the Division 12 title is being contested by Raglan and Ribbleton.
The league also has a number of cup competitions, including the Lancashire Sunday Trophy, which is being contested by AFC Lytham and Burscough Villa.
