Hexham & District Sunday League
The Hexham & District Sunday League is an amateur football league in Northumberland, England. It was founded in 1923 and currently has over 100 teams competing in two divisions. The league is affiliated to the Northumberland Football Association.
History
The Hexham & District Sunday League was founded in 1923 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The first season saw just six teams competing, but the league has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams.
The league has been sponsored by a number of different companies over the years, and the current sponsors are ESI Ltd and The PHOENIX.
Divisions
The Hexham & District Sunday League has two divisions:
- ESI Ltd Division One
- The PHOENIX Hexham Division Two
The teams in each division play each other twice, once at home and once away. The top teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to the next division, while the bottom teams are relegated to the previous division.
Cup Competitions
The Hexham & District Sunday League also runs a number of cup competitions, including:
- ESI Ltd League Cup
- Doug Mathewson Presidents Cup
- Hexham & District Charity Shield
The cup competitions are open to all teams in the league, and the winners of each competition qualify for the FA Sunday Cup.
