History
The GPSD was founded in 1972 by a group of football enthusiasts who wanted to create a competitive amateur football league in Pittsburgh. The league's first season consisted of just four teams. The number of teams in the league has grown steadily over the years, and it now consists of 12 teams.
The GPSD has produced several players who have gone on to play professional football. One of the most notable players is former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward. Ward played for the GPSD in the early 1990s before being drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft.
