Gainsborough & District Sunday Football League
The Gainsborough & District Sunday Football League is an amateur football league based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England. It was founded in 1922 and currently consists of 30 teams playing in three divisions.
History
The Gainsborough & District Sunday Football League was founded in 1922 by a group of local footballers. The league initially consisted of just six teams, but it has since grown to become one of the largest Sunday leagues in Lincolnshire.
The league has been a breeding ground for some talented footballers over the years. Former England internationals Paul Gascoigne and David Batty both played in the league during their youth.
Current Structure
The Gainsborough & District Sunday Football League currently consists of three divisions: Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3. Each division plays a double round-robin format, with each team playing each other team twice.
The top two teams in Division 1 are promoted to the Lincolnshire League at the end of the season, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division 2. The top two teams in Division 2 are promoted to Division 1, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division 3.
