Introduction
FC United of Manchester is a semi-professional football club based in Moston, Manchester, England. It was founded in 2005 by Manchester United supporters opposed to the takeover of the club by American businessman Malcolm Glazer.
The club competes in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier of the English football league system. It plays its home matches at Broadhurst Park.
History
FC United was formed in 2005 by a group of Manchester United supporters who were unhappy with the Glazer family's takeover of the club. The new owners had borrowed heavily to finance the takeover, and this led to a significant increase in ticket prices and a decline in the club's on-field performance.
The founders of FC United wanted to create a club that was owned and run by its fans, and that would provide affordable, family-friendly football. The club's first season was a success, and it won promotion to the North West Counties Football League Division One.
FC United has continued to grow and develop in the years since its formation. It has won promotion three more times, and it is now playing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. The club has also established a women's team and a youth team.
Current season
FC United is currently in its 18th season. The club is competing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, and it is currently in 12th place.
The club's first game of the season was against Bradford Park Avenue on September 9, 2023. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
FC United's next game is against Marske United on September 16, 2023. The match will be played at Broadhurst Park.
