East Midlands Public Authorities League
The East Midlands Public Authorities League (EMPAL) is an amateur football league for teams representing public authorities in the East Midlands region of England. It was founded in 1974 and currently has over 100 teams competing in four divisions.
History
The EMPAL was founded in 1974 by a group of public authority employees who wanted to provide a competitive football league for their teams. The league initially had just two divisions, but it has since expanded to four divisions.
The EMPAL has been won by a variety of teams over the years, including Nottinghamshire County Council, Derbyshire County Council, and Leicestershire County Council. The current champions are Arnold Athletic F.C.
Format
The EMPAL season runs from September to April, with each team playing each other team in their division once. The top two teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to the next division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the previous division.
The EMPAL also has a cup competition, the EMPAL Cup, which is open to all teams in the league. The cup is played in a knockout format, with the winners being crowned EMPAL Cup champions.
