The Dover Mercury Sunday League was founded in 1970 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league started with just 6 teams, but has since grown to over 50 teams.
The league is currently divided into 3 divisions: Premier Division, Division One, and Division Two. The Premier Division is the top division, and the Division Two is the bottom division.
Season
The Dover Mercury Sunday League season runs from September to May. Each team plays each other team in their division once, home and away.
The top two teams in the Premier Division at the end of the season are promoted to the next division, and the bottom two teams are relegated to the lower division.
Cup competitions
The Dover Mercury Sunday League also runs a number of cup competitions, including the Brian Punton Cup and the Tom Donnelly Cup.
The Brian Punton Cup is the league's premier cup competition. It is named after Brian Punton, who was a former chairman of the league.
The Tom Donnelly Cup is the league's second tier cup competition. It is named after Tom Donnelly, who was a former secretary of the league.
