The Dover Mercury Sunday Football League was founded in 1970 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league started with just 6 teams, but has since grown to over 50 teams.
The league has been home to some of the best amateur footballers in Kent, including former England internationals Paul Davis and Steve Sidwell.
Competitions
The Dover Mercury Sunday Football League runs a number of competitions, including the Premier Division, Division One, and Division Two. The league also has a cup competition, the Tom Donnelly Cup.
The Premier Division is the top division in the league, and is contested by the best teams in the league. The winner of the Premier Division is promoted to the Kent Sunday League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division One.
Division One is the second tier of the league, and is contested by teams that have been relegated from the Premier Division or promoted from Division Two. The winner of Division One is promoted to the Premier Division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division Two.
Division Two is the third tier of the league, and is contested by teams that have been relegated from Division One or promoted from the Kent Sunday League Reserve Division. The winner of Division Two is promoted to Division One, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Kent Sunday League Reserve Division.
