Dover District Sunday League
The Dover District Sunday League is an amateur football league based in Dover, Kent, England. It was founded in 1921 and currently consists of 3 divisions, with a total of 42 clubs. The league is affiliated to the Kent County Football Association.
History
The Dover District Sunday League was founded in 1921 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The first season consisted of just 6 teams, but the league has grown steadily over the years and now has over 40 clubs. The league has been won by a variety of clubs over the years, with no one team dominating.
Current season
The 2023-2024 season is currently underway. The Premier Division is being led by Athletico Bull, with Eastry Ravens in second place. Division One is being led by The Bull, with The Boars Head in second place. Division Two is being led by The Crownsto, with The White Hart in second place.
Rules
The Dover District Sunday League follows the FA's standard rules of football. However, there are a few additional rules that are specific to the league. For example, all teams must have a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 11 players on the field at any one time. Matches are played over 2 halves of 45 minutes each, with a break of 10 minutes in between.
Cup competitions
In addition to the league, the Dover District Sunday League also runs a number of cup competitions. The most prestigious cup competition is the Brian Punton Cup, which is named after the league's founder. Other cup competitions include the Tom Donnelly Cup, the Kent Junior Cup, and the Kent Senior Cup.
