Introduction
Division D is the lowest level of the Dutch football league system. It is a regional league, with each region having its own division. The number of teams in each division varies, but it is typically around 14 teams.
The teams in Division D are mostly amateur clubs, but there are also a few semi-professional clubs. The season runs from September to May, and each team plays each other team twice, once at home and once away.

The top two teams in each division are promoted to Division C, and the bottom two teams are relegated to Division E.
History
Division D was first introduced in the 1970s, as part of a reorganization of the Dutch football league system. It replaced the old Vierde Klasse, which was the lowest level of the league system at the time.

The league has undergone a number of changes over the years, but it has always remained the lowest level of the Dutch football league system.
Current season
The current season of Division D is the 2022-2023 season. There are 14 teams in each division, for a total of 196 teams in the league.

The top two teams in each division will be promoted to Division C, and the bottom two teams will be relegated to Division E.
